Mayor to Host Last Night of the Proms Charity Evening

Date Released - 06/05/2022

IT’S Platinum Jubilee year, so what better way to celebrate than with a “Last Night of the Proms” charity evening?

The event, which takes place at Dukinfield Town Hall on Saturday, May 21, has been organised by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Janet Cooper, as a rousing way to bring down the curtain on her time in office.

All the Royal Albert Hall favourites will be featured – “Land of Hope and Glory”, “Rule Britannia” and “Jerusalem” – as well as other classics.

Ashton Brass Band will supply the music, fresh from taking first place at the North West Area (first section) championships in Blackpool, and popular vocalist Dom Collins will lead the singing.

Admission is by ticket only (£10) available from Christine Acton on 0161 342 3087 or via email christine.acton@tameside.gov.uk The price includes meat and potato or cheese and onion pie, a song sheet and flags to wave.

All proceeds from the evening go to the Mayor’s charity appeal which is raising funds for Cascade Baby Bundles and the Friends of Tameside Young Carers

The Mayor said: “Everyone loves a good sing-song and there can’t be any that are better than the Last Night of the Proms.

“I want to raise the roof at Dukinfield Town Hall on May 21. Please come and join us as we celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, bring my time as mayor to a close, raise money for some very good causes, and, most of all, have a really good time and sing ourselves hoarse.”
